The devs make a lot of the claims and arguments that are supported by so many other people’s opinion about it. I’ve seen a lot of people who claim they only ever used mysql, and I think there are plenty of people who do.
While I know the basics, I don’t use mysql myself, so I can’t speak for the opinions of the people I’ve met who have used it. But I can say that mysql has its ups and downs, and that the devs have some interesting ideas on how to apply them. I’ve always found that MySQL is such an important database that I find it hard to believe that there are people who aren’t using it.
I think mysql has its ups and downs as well, but I think it is amazing how well it has grown to become the dominant database in a myriad of roles, including web servers, databases, and reporting systems.

However, it’s the only way to use MySQL. A database can be built using any of several standard MySQL extensions. These extensions are called _mysql_extension. They are extensions of MySQL.
