By One of the many many reasons I love working on the freelance level is that I get to make a career out of it. I’m always working on something because it means the world to me. I’ve done the research on freelance writing gigs and most of them are pretty flexible. Some are just freelance writing gigs for months, as in you’ll get paid every month.
I personally prefer to freelance work as a general term of “I’m doing this for a living,” because it’s a good way to explain what we do at Arkane Studios: we write games. It’s a lot more work than writing articles or reviews, but it pays the bills and gives me a new way to approach my job.

For me, freelance writing has not been an easy choice. The thought of working full time for 10 hours a day for $5 an hour (or whatever it would take to make the rent on my apartment) got me thinking about all the things I want to do when I get older. The thought of leaving my home, my family, and my friends behind for a few years to make a living from my writing career was intimidating.
I think the fear that comes with it is usually justified, though. A lot of people are scared to leave their families and friends behind, so if they find themselves doing something like that, they might just get themselves into a situation where they end up on the wrong side of the law. I don’t think that’s the case with freelance writing though. If I was getting into a situation like that, I’d probably just quit.
